Aromatic Ginger & Citrus Water (My Go‑To Summer Drink)
As the days started getting warmer, I found myself craving something light, refreshing, and hydrating. I opened the fridge, spotted a few lonely pieces of ginger and citrus, and decided to try making an aromatic infused water. The result surprised me: slightly spicy, and refreshing. Since then, I have been experimenting with different combinations: rosemary with bay leaves, ginger with lemon only, and even a simple citrus‑only version. As summer picks up, I will keep trying new blends… and you should absolutely feel free to play with your own ingredients too.
Ingredients
- 1l of water
- 30gr fresh ginger
- 2/3 slices of fresh lemon
- 5/6 mint leaves
Process:
- Boil the water: Use a kettle or a pot on the stove.
- Prepare the ginger: Peel it and slice it into thin pieces to release more flavour.
- Slice the citrus: Wash the lemon thoroughly, then slice it.
- Combine everything: Place the ginger, lemon slices, and mint into a tea can or heat‑resistant jar. I used fresh mint from my balcony garden, but you can find it in the supermarket as well.
- Pour the hot water: Once the water boils, pour it over the ingredients.
- Let it infuse: Allow the water to cool down to room temperature, then place it in the fridge for at least 3 hours.
- Serve chilled as a refreshing drink.
Variations to try
- Ginger + Lemon + Orange for a sharper, more energising flavour
- Rosemary + Bay Leaves + Ginger + Lemon for a herbal, aromatic twist
- Only Citrus for a sweeter, softer infusion
- Add cucumber for extra freshness
Tips
- The longer it sits, the stronger the flavour becomes.
- You can refill the jar once with fresh hot water — the ingredients still have flavour left up to a maximum of 3 times.
- Use organic citrus when possible, since the peel is infused too.
