Butter Biscuits

A recipe for soft and delicious biscuits

As you might know, Italians love breakfast with various kind of cookies either with coffee, cappuccino or chocolate milk. If you go inside an Italian supermarket you will find an entire section dedicated to the biscuits and you will be amazed by how many different qualities there are. Here after, a recipe for amazing butter biscuits.


For the dough:

  • 125 gr butter
  • 250 gr flour
  • 100 gr sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1 table spoon of milk
  • Cinnamon
  • Orange zest

For the topping:

  • Marzipan
  • Rainbow sprinkles


  1. Put the butter in a bowl and melt it in the microwave.
  2. Add the sugar to the bowl with the melted butter and stir until it reaches a creamy consistency.
  3. Add the egg in the bowl and mix until everything is homogenous.
  4. After that add the flour, the baking powder, cinnamon and orange zest and mix them together.
  5. Last, add the milk and stir until the dough is non sticky and soft.
  6. Now, you need to make the biscuits in a round shape. So take a tablespoon of dough and with your hands or a fork make it flat. Place it in a baking tray with baking paper
  7. After having cut a piece of marzipan and having it rolled, add it on top and the rainbow sprinkles.
  8. Cook in the preheated oven at 180°C for 12-15 minutes until they have a golden color.


  • Instead of orange and cinnamon, you can put whatever flavor you prefer. Moreover, as a topping instead of marzipan and rainbow sprinkles you can put other decorations.
  • For a more colorful version of the biscuits, you could add the rainbow sprinkles inside the dough just before adding the milk.
