An Italian special type of Gnocchi
Gnocchi is a traditional Italian dish usually made out of potatoes. This recipe represents another way of doing them. Instead of using potatoes, it is using Semolina which is a special fine flour with a yellow color.
Ingredients 3/4 people:
For the dough:
- 250 gr semolina
- 1 l milk
- 1 egg yolk
- Nutmeg
For the toppings:
- Ham
- Cheese
The process:
- Pour in a pot the milk and let it boil.
- Once the boiling temperature has been reached, add the semolina while stirring. The dough should reach a solid consistency.
- Let it cook at medium/low heat for another 5 minutes. Then, let it sit for 10 minutes.
- Add the egg yolk and stir until it is incorporated with the rest of the dough.
- Afterwards, put the dough in a plane baking tray and let it sit over night or for at least 12 hours in the fridge.
- After the rest hours, cut the dough in small squares and position them in the baking tray. Add cheese and Ham on top.
- Cook for 20 minutes in the oven at 160°C until the top part become golden color.
Variants for filling:
- As a topping you could also use tomato sauce or pesto and cheese. You can use whichever ingredients you like the most.
