How to make Pizza with potato

A tasty recipe for an unusual Pizza

Pizza is a well-known Italian dish. However, this pizza is quite different from what you might expect. Not only it is done in the pan, but its dough is also based on potatoes.


For the dough:

  • 3 medium size potatoes
  • Flour
  • 10 gr Salt
  • 1 egg (medium)

For the filling:

  • Melting cheese
  • Ham
  • Pesto

The process:

  1. Peel and boil the potatoes. When cooked, put them in a bowl.
  2. Let them cool and then mash them. Ideally, you should mash the potatoes with a potato masher, if you do not have it you can use a fork. In this last case, make sure that the potatoes are cooked very well, almost overcooked. It will be easier to mash them.
  3. When the potatoes reached room temperature, add in the bowl flour, salt and the egg.
  4. Stir until obtaining a non sticky dough, add flour if necessary. It can take a lot of flour to make the dough non-sticky.
  5. When you achieved the right consistency, divide the dough in two equal pieces. Roll the first one in a circle of the dimensions for the pan you will use to cook it. When the first layer is rolled, roll also the second one. You will then obtain two thin circular layers of the dimension of the pan.
  6. Put the first layer in the pan and cook at medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes. Flip it and add the cheese and the ham on top.
  7. Put on top of the ham and cheese the second circular layer, and let it cook for another 5 minutes. Make sure to close the two layers at the edge.
  8. After 5 minutes flip it and let it cook until both sides reach a golden color.

Variants for topping:

  • You can put inside whichever ingredients you like, but cheese is always highly suggested because otherwise the dough will result a bit too dry. Even sweet ingredients works!


  • You can decorate it some parsley or basilicum leaves. For a tastier dough, you can add nutmeg while forming the dough.
